Legacy Sponsorship Program
Salem Soap Box Derby is pleased to announce The Legacy Sponsorship Program.
The Legacy Sponsorship Program, founded in 2009 by former Champs, Robert Mossbrucker (1977) and Tom Parent (1976), is made up of former champions, racers, board members, and directors, who contribute funds to purchase kits to be provided to recipients.
The purpose of the Salem Soap Box Derby (SSBD) Legacy Sponsorship Program is to promote the SSBD and provide opportunities for children to participate in the SBD who might not otherwise be able to afford to do so. The program will support children new to the sport of Soap Box Derby racing, whom qualify to race in the Stock Division of the annual All American SBD qualifying race, and who's household income would be considered to be economically challenging(to be determined by the SSBD Board of Directors).
The Legacy Sponsorship Program is made up of former champions, racers, board members, and directors, who contribute funds towards the purchase of car kits to be provided to recipients. The Program will be a three-tier system, which will give the sponsor the option of being:
- A Full Sponsor: donating the full cost of a car kit.
- A Shared Sponsor: donating half the cost of a kit, to be combined with another legacy shared sponsor.
- A General Sponsor: donating any sum, to be pooled with other donations to achieve an amount sufficient for additional sponsorships and other costs associated with the program.
Legacy Sponsorship participants may also contribute to the program by volunteering to work with selected racers as mentors, car builders and car handlers.
Contributions can be made directly to the Salem SBD Association. The final number of sponsorships for the annual All American race will be determined by the time of the April board of directors meeting. Donations made after that time will be applied toward the following year.
In partnership with the Salem Boys and Girls Clubs, Legacy Sponsorship candidates are selected based on financial need, scholarship, citizenship and sportsmanship. Boy’s and Girl’s Club will provide the Legacy Racers with assistance in car assembly and track support along with volunteers from the SSBD.
